Construction of Roman bridges(Judit Lozano)
ArcThe design was consisting in one o more round arches supported on aligned props. On these arches there goes the route that crosses the river. In the props they were constructing tajamares projections to reduce the erosion that produces the water. In the construction they were using big blocks, which were forming the external paraments, and were refilling the interior of mortar cemented with puzolana. To hoist the blocks they were using derricks moved by slaves, placed inside a wheel. The construction of the bridge was beginning for the foundations, once selected the firmest area and verified the resistance of the subsoil. The most important problem was the water. To solve in they were using ataguías. Inside the ataguías one was proceeding to the construction of the props. They were leaving step ata the time, the carpenters who were placing the centering. On the centering the dovelas up to completing the curve.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
